In this article, I’d like to introduce you to my personal favorite, and possibly the best AI image generator: Leonardo AI.
What is Leonardo AI?
Leonardo AI is a highly advanced, multifunctional image and video generator. One of its standout features is that it comes with a vast array of pre-trained models, presets, and other settings, meaning you don’t have to deal with textual commands—you can adjust a lot of things using sliders and buttons.

It’s important to note that with a free account, you may not have access to all pro features and models, and images generated with the free version cannot be used for commercial purposes. However, it’s perfect for practice.
How does Leonardo AI work?
Once you’ve registered, you’ll be greeted by the following home screen. On the left sidebar, you’ll see your profile and your current token balance. Below that, you’ll find various functions. In the right-hand section, the same functions are listed at the top, with featured video tutorials below (in English), followed by images and videos generated by others. If you’re using the free version, your images may also appear in this list, meaning anyone can see and even regenerate them.
Leonardo AI Menus
This tool is incredibly versatile. Here’s a brief summary of what you’ll find:
- Image Creation: This is the image generator, where you can create images.
- Motion: Generate 4-second videos from images. You can use an image generated here or upload your own.
- Realtime Canvas: Creates AI-generated images from your drawing in real-time. You can draw with your mouse or a digital drawing tablet, or provide instructions for the image. As you draw, the image is updated accordingly.
- Realtime Generation: Similar to the previous feature, but instead of drawing, you generate based on text prompts. Each new character you type changes the result live. Perfect for testing ideas without consuming many credits.
- Canvas Editor: This is Leonardo’s AI-powered image editor, where you can modify or expand images (I actually canceled my Photoshop subscription because of this feature).
- Universal Upscaler: Creative image upscaling—this tool can even enhance your grandmother’s 60-year-old photos.
- Finetune Models: Access to fine-tuned models to work with.
- Training and Datasets: You can also train your own models.
- Texture Generation: Design textures in 3D—perfect for packaging design, design plans, or interior decoration.
As you can see, even listing all the functions is lengthy, let alone demonstrating them. But don’t be intimidated—it’s easy to get the hang of it. This is the kind of tool I could write a small book about, given all it can do, but it’s difficult to convey this knowledge through writing.
Leonardo AI Models
It’s important to discuss the pre-trained models in Leonardo AI. The model you choose makes a big difference because, no matter what prompt you give (for example, asking for an image of an acne-prone face), if you have the PhotoReal feature turned on or select the Portrait Perfect model, the image won’t show acne, only flawless skin—because the model’s training is always stronger than your instructions!
What can you use Leonardo AI for?
- Marketing: Create images and videos for online ads, even edit them and add captions in the editor.
- Websites: Generate backgrounds, patterns, web design ideas, visual plans, and entire block designs.
- Products: Whether you run an online shop or are working on new product designs, you can quickly create new concepts, packaging designs, and backgrounds.
- 3D Design: As a non-expert, I was able to work on a 3D chair design, generating different fabric textures in high resolution.
- Branding and Mockups: Create lifelike visual designs for completed professional branding, or experiment with different design ideas on various surfaces.
- Interior Design and Architecture: Generate visual designs and concepts based on real room photos, quickly and at scale.
- Social Media: Create post and story images in virtually any size and resolution!
- Video: Currently, it generates 4-second videos, and you can only control the intensity of the motion.
